
Roy L. & Aleta M. Moore Scholarship
Roy and Aleta Moore were lifelong residents of Brown County, Kansas, and moved to Hiawatha, Kansas, in 1975 retiring from a career of farming in the Robinson community. Mrs. Moore was the last to die in 1995, and in her Last Will and Testament, she established a trust for the award of the Moore Scholarship for graduating students from Hiawatha High School. The scholarship program began with the graduates of 1997 and will be in existence for a period of 20 years. In 2016, the funds were transferred to the USD #415 Educational Foundation with the purpose of continuing the tradition of assisting Hiawatha High School graduates in pursuing postsecondary educational opportunities. This year’s recipients are:

Red Hawk Booster Club Scholarship is awarded to those students who best demonstrate academic excellence with a current GPA of above 3.20, have been active in high school activities, have been an excellent representative/role model of their schools, have always shown good sportsmanship in all activities, and have always shown good citizenship towards their teammates and coaches. Each year the Booster Club decides on the number of and the amounts of the scholarships that are awarded. This year's recipients are Sutton Diller, Darcy Lierz, Maizie Hageman, Grace Morey & Ashton Rockey.






Hiawatha Alumni Association Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors with preference for those seniors who had parents who attended Hiawatha High School and plan to attend college or a vocational school. Since the 1970s, the Hiawatha Alumni Association has been proud to support further academic development by providing yearly scholarships to deserving graduates. These scholarships are funded by donations and fundraisers sponsored by the Alumni Association. This year’s recipients are Sutton Diller, Maizie Hageman, Joey Meyer, Grace Morey, Ashton Rockey, Camden Thonen, Hannah Twombly & Brenna Ward

Deputy Todd Widman Memorial Scholarship is awarded in honor and remembrance of the ultimate sacrifice made by Brown County Deputy Todd Michael Widman, a 1997 graduate of Hiawatha High School. Deputy Widman gave his life for the citizens in Brown County in 2001. This year’s recipients are Paige Campbell, Logan Huckaby, Samantha Klocke, Alena Larson, Carter Peters, & Carolyn Schuetz.







The Fairview High School Alumni Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 by the Fairview Rural High School Alumni Association for the purpose of granting scholarships to those high school graduates who now reside within the boundaries of the former District #5 (1966) and who meet the criteria established by the Board. This year’s recipient is: Addy Kopp.


The Kiley Ramey Memorial Scholarship was put in place by Gary and Linda Ramey in remembrance of their daughter. Kiley Ramey lost her life in a car accident while a student at Hiawatha High School. Kiley’s scholarship emphasizes service to others. Kiley was known for wearing her heart on her sleeve. She always wanted to help the kids that were bullied in school and encourage others to “Be bold, be courageous, be your best!” The year’s recipient is Paige Campbell.


Kay L. Hilton Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of Hiawatha High School who will be studying nursing at any accredited post-secondary institution. Begun in 2010, this nursing scholarship is given by Robert Hilton in memory of his wife, Kay, who spent several years fighting cancer. Robert and Kay were always impressed with her nurses and the scholarship has been established to honor those who cared so well for her. This year’s recipient is Graycen Ferris.

Genevieve Strahan Scholarship is given in memory of Genevieve Strahan. She was a lifelong resident of Brown County. She graduated from Hamlin High School in 1929 and attended college at Washburn University and Emporia State Teachers’ College, graduating in 1933. She was a long time public school teacher and administrator. This year's recipient is Abigail Kettler.


Citizens State Bank and Trust Scholarship is given to a graduating senior from Hiawatha High School who will be attending Highland Community College. This year's recipient is Nevaeh Hazelton.


A.B. & Dana Foster Keith Scholarship is awarded to a Hiawatha High School graduate attending the University of Kansas. This scholarship was established in 1977 by the Keith’s three children. Mr. & Mrs. Keith were native Kansans, both born in 1898—she in a sod house on the Ness County Prairie and he in Dexter. They married in 1926 while both were teachers at Kinsley High School. In 1931 they moved to Hiawatha, where they established a real estate and insurance firm. Mrs. Keith continued in the classroom until her retirement in 1967, and together their service in public schools totaled 48 years. Mr. Keith died in 1958 and Mrs. Keith in 1975. The winner of this year’s scholarship is Camden Thonen.


Hiawatha High School Student Council Scholarship is based on extra-curricular activities, involvement in the community, and academic achievement. This year's recipient is Ashton Rockey.


Robinson Lions Club recipient: Dane Geiger


Judy Fuemmeler Memorial Scholarship was set up in memory of Judy who believed in servant minded volunteerism to better her community. She had a passion for helping individuals from all walks of life and every circumstance, believing children, especially, should have access to the supports and provisions to be successful. This year’s recipient is: Carolyn Schuetz.


The Chris Vitt Teachable Heart Scholarship is presented in loving memory of Chris Vitt who taught Biology at the school for 35 years. Mr. Vitt also coached golf and volleyball for many of those years. The scholarship hopes to recognize a student who embodies Chris’ many wonderful attributes, including academic achievement combined with a loving investment of self in the lives of others. This year's recipient is Camden Thonen.


Savannah Domann Memorial Volleyball Scholarship was set up in memory of Savannah Domann. Savannah attended school in Hiawatha through the 7th grade. She loved it here and often talked about moving back. This year's recipient is Sutton Diller.
