Parents/Guardians: Sometimes at school, your student may get a headache, stomachache, itchy rash, or cough that can make it hard to concentrate and learn in class. The following OTC (over the counter medications) are recommended if you are able to provide to the school for your student to be given only when needed. They will be kept in the nurse's office in a locked cabinet at all times and given only as necessary by the school nurse or trained non-nursing staff. Please note, as per our health policy, that NO over the counter medication will be given if the student is found to have a fever of 100.0 F or over, vomiting/diarrhea, spreading rash all over, coughing that will not stop, any contagious disease or any other illness. An ill child will not be able to stay in school. The parent/guardian will be contacted in the above situations to pick up their child from school. Children’s Tylenol/Motrin (ibuprofen) Chewable antacid (Children’s Tums or Children’s Pepto Bismol) Hydrocortisone Cream/ointment Benadryl for any allergic reaction Cough Drops Children’s Mucinex during cold/flu season Children’s cough syrup during cold/flu season The parent/guardian will have to sign an OTC consent form for ANY OTC medications they provide to the school. Students are NOT allowed to carry any OTC medications on their person while at school, including cough drops. All OTC medications must be given to the school nurse and will be kept in a locked cabinet in the nurse's office as mentioned above. Please do not provide any OTC medications to the school if your child has a known allergy to the medication.
