How many cookies can you eat? Well - that's not important - but how large a container can you build from an 8 1/2 X 11 " piece of cardstock by cutting out squares from the corners and folding into a "cookie container" - that is the real fun part of HHS Calculus class! We came up with a container to hold about 60 cookies and then used Calculus to find how to up our game to about 66 cookies....but regardless of how many cookies our box contained.....we got to eat them! Calculus Rocks!

Congratulations to Coach Diller and the power lifting team at the state meet today! Koen McMullen took 2nd overall, Aaron Jenkins took 3rd overall, and Leah Kessler took 4th overall. A great day to be a Red Hawk!

The family of the late Roy Hartley recently made donations to four different groups at HHS. Roy had 4 daughters who all had very different interests. They decided to use the remainder of Roy's memorial fund to split amongst 4 different clubs-- specific to each daughter's interests. Approximately $209 were donated each to the Art Club, the Astronomy Club, the play & FBLA.
Stephanie Hartley presented checks to Ethan Henry, Kacer Knudson, Lyle Simmons, Zoey Hedrick, Levi Fleagle & Tori Wist.
Hiawatha High School would like to thank Stephanie & the entire Hartley family for their generosity!

Walking Field Trip to the Traffic Light!
HMS 7th & 8th Grade students in Mr. Hampl's Current Event class went on a walking field trip to the traffic signal light at the intersection of 1st & Oregon streets. Students timed the wait time for a safe crossing & had to wait nearly two minutes each time. We have been closely following regional & state media coverage of this issue. Students designed persuasive posters about the KDOT "road diet" proposal. The vast majority of students wanted to keep a traffic light and have a dedicated "walk" signal.

Congratulations to our HES Character Kids who showed characteristics of the February character word- Fairness. Grade level teachers chose one boy and one girl from their grade level who exemplified the character trait! Each student received a certificate, $5 gift card to Hiawatha Creamery, and a Red Hawk character kids t-shirt! This recognition was made possible with a grant through The Foundation.
