Work Based Learning Spotlight: Acacia Erdley, Hiawatha Community Foundation
My name is Acacia Erdley and I am doing my WBL in marketing for the Hiawatha Community Foundation. I actually do this at the school but I get to visit with Mrs. Virginia Freeze each month to talk about my progress. The Hiawatha Community Foundation has some very exciting things in the works for students this next year and I am excited that I get to be a part of them! I work on slogans, social media posts, and posters for their future events. Initially I did this work study to try something different as I have been on the teaching path for a while, but I have really enjoyed getting to learn about marking and its perks! I can definitely see myself possibly doing something in marketing in my future.

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Tori Wist, Hiawatha Elementary School
Hello, my name is Tori Wist and I am a senior at Hiawatha High School. My current career goal is to teach in an area of the arts. For my Teaching Internship this semester, I shadow Miss Katie Miller at the elementary school. Going to this location helps me to not only get a feel for teaching visual arts, but also working with younger kids.

We have an immediate opening for a morning route driver (2 hours/day-6:00am to 8:00am) with options for more hours with subbing and activity trip driving.
We pay $20/hour and we will do all necessary training.
A class A or B CDL with school bus and passenger endorsements is required and we will do everything we can to help you get licensed and pay costs associated with upgrading your license and you will get paid training.

HMS Weekly Update
Nov. 11-16, 2024

HMS STEM in the Real World students planned, designed and created cardboard Haunted Houses. They had to include light and sounds that they coded using microbits. Students also had to write an advertisement persuading people to visit and also calculate the total area! They did a fantastic job!

Today, the Hiawatha FFA hosted a Veteran’s Day celebration honoring the brave men & women who have served or are serving. Thank you to all who attended.

Thumbs up to everyone who came to the HES book fair! Look at these additions to our classroom library!

Please help me congratulate the next recipient of the HES Red Hawk Hero award! The Red Hawk hero award goes to a staff member who exemplifies the characteristics of a hero. Our next recipient is Sandy Twombly, our student success liaison.
Her nomination read: In the last almost 2 years I have worked here she shows up everyday with a positive; it is a new day, attitude. She will drop everything in a second if anyone needs her. When a day may seem to be falling all around she never shows any emotion other than patience and understanding for the kids and staff members. The way she speaks to children is so uplifting to hear. She makes them all feel seen, heard and accepted. She is committed to her job and perseveres through many situations and obstacles. Our school would not be as efficient without her and her ideas. We are very lucky to have her apart of our HES family. 🔴🔵 #HESRedHawks #USD415 #RedHawkReady #Hiawathaks #HiawathaKansas 🔴🔵

We hope to see you tonight at our PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade family night! The book fair will be open from 3:30-6:30 with our family night taking place from 5:30-6:30.
Please note the date change for grades 2, 3, and 4. Due to scheduling conflicts, their family night has been moved to April 2nd. 🔴🔵 #HESRedHawks #USD415 #RedHawkReady #Hiawathaks #HiawathaKansas #VisitHiawatha 🔴🔵
