This semester I am doing my teaching internship with Robyn Tollefson’s preschool class. I love getting to help out every day. My favorite part of the day is reading to them! Helping out with a younger grade brings its own challenges and stressors but it is also super rewarding. By doing this SDS I hope to gain clarity on my college major and what field I want to go into. Last semester I did an internship with a first grade class which was a little bit more my pace than preschool is. I am sure I want to go into elementary education, but getting a feel for early childhood education has been eye opening as well.

My name is Brenna Ward and I am completing my Work Based Learning at Brobst Accounting LLC with Megan Brobst. This is a picture of me doing bookkeeping data entry. I also do some organizing and filing. I observe how Megan interacts with her customers and how she runs her business. Through this SDS, I am hoping to learn more about accounting and finance, and I am also hoping to figure out if this is the career for me. So far, it has made me a lot more confident about my decision to major in Finance at Kansas State University next fall.

Work Based Learning Spotlight: KJ Holub
I am doing my Healthcare Work Experience at Rehab Visions. My supervisor is Adam, is a physical therapist. I started my work experience around January 13th 2023. Adam has his Doctoral in Physical Therapy (DPT). I am Job Shadowing to be a Physical Therapist Assistant. What I observe from patients are their injuries and stretches and how the PT’s and PTA’s communicate with their patients to get their goals met. I learned how the patients caused the injury and I evaluate and learn from their injuries and what type of stretches they are doing to help rehabilitate their injured leg, arm, wrist, neck, back, etc.. The reason I chose to job shadow as a Physical Therapist Assistant is because I want to be a Physical Therapist Assistant in the future. I love the fact that I can help people and encourage them to push themselves to become better and watch their progress from the beginning to the end. Just by Watching Adam and the other physical therapist, will teach me how they interact with their patient and how they chose specific stretches for specific injuries and how they assess their patients.

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Sutton Diller
I’m Sutton Diller and I have been doing my my second work based learning activity with Lisa Pierce, the school psychologist for Brown County school districts. I mainly observe Mrs. Pierce and the many tasks she has to complete daily. Along with that, with parent consent, I have been able to sit in on different testings with several students. I plan to pursue a career in school psychology and this opportunity is a great way for me to prepare for my future. It’s very helpful to understand the wide range of tasks a school psychologist has and how they are able to adapt when different situations arise.
