Dear Parent & Students
Welcome back! We are excited to see all of you this week at Hiawatha Middle School! The staff have been working very hard to prepare for this upcoming year, whatever that may look like. We are proud of the work they have done to prepare for this new adventure. Although there are several changes to the schedule, lunch, arrival and dismissal, our number one priority is to make each and every student feel safe while being successful at school.
We will welcome our new 5th grade students on Wednesday, Sept. 2nd at 7:50 am. They will meet the HMS staff and go through procedures. All students will report on Thursday, Sept. 3 rd .
As per district guidelines masks are required to be worn at all times in USD 415 facilities. However, scheduled breaks will take place. USD #415 has purchased 2 masks for each student.
- Nurse Erin will hand these out as students enter on the first day of school
- Students may wear their own masks provided that they follow the school dress code policy for appropriate wear
We will provide 1 water bottle per student. Each student will receive theirs during their 1st hour. Students may bring their own water bottle, however only water will be permitted.
The building will open at 7:50 am. Students arriving before 7:50 will remain outside and practice social distancing with the Red Hawk markings outside. Students will enter the building and their temperature will be taken with a thermal camera. Students eating breakfast will go directly to the commons are remain there until dismissed to first hour. Students who are not eating will go directly to their first hour class and will remain there. Students may arrive anytime between 7:50-8:10. Classes will start at 8:10.
Lunch schedules will be modified to adhere social distancing where possible. 7th /8th graders will be eating early afternoon so please eat a good breakfast.

HMS will dismiss at 3:30.

Parents picking up students will park in the parking lot
The street and circle drive are not for parking to pick up students
There will be no shuttle bus between elementary, middle and high school for students
Students riding a bus will be required to wear a mask and sit with families.
