April 28, 2020

Greetings Red Hawk Family,

As you may have heard, Governor Kelly is expected to provide more guidance regarding the status of the current stay-at-home order on Thursday.  What does that potentially mean for USD 415 and schools in Kansas?  Unfortunately, it won’t change the status of schools being open.  They are closed through May 29th per the executive order.  It may not even change the status of school-related events.  That remains to be seen.

As you know, we have been operating under a cloud of uncertainty since mid-March.  We hope to gain a little clarity from the news conference.  That clarity, combined with guidance from health officials, will determine the status of school-related activities in the coming weeks and well into the summer.  In fact, that guidance has driven much of our planning these past several weeks.  Much of that planning has been toward end-of-year activities and crucial events such as graduation and senior awards night.  You may know that commencement ceremonies for Hiawatha High School are still scheduled for May 17th.  We are still working on details and will adjust as we know more information.  Hiawatha High School seniors and their parents will be invited to a virtual meeting in the coming days to learn more of these plans.

This situation has been, and will remain, fluid.   We will continue to respond and plan based on known information and expert guidance.  In times like these, we all grasp for normalcy. Sadly, we cannot promise normalcy, but we will do our best to provide some degree of certainty in planning for the end of this year and the months that follow.  Thank you for your continued support.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Lonnie Moser, Superintendent
