Fourth Grade teachers Joy Lauer, Briana Jones and Elaine Schilling, and their paraprofessionals, Kathy Robert, Katie Miller and Bonnie Marable, along with Title I Reading teachers Betty Griebat and Becky Schwanke, and LD Specialist Peggy Vaughn are trying something just a little different for guided reading this year. After looking at the beginning of the year reading assessments, the fourth grade students were divided into 16 small groups. The groups meet with a fourth grade
team teacher for 25 minutes each day to read, write and extend their literacy skills. This enables the groups to be quite small with 3-5 students per group. The students are excited about getting to work with other grade level classmates and seeing a new teacher in the afternoon. The teachers are excited about the small group size and being able to target very specific skills in order to help each student become a better reader!Note: Most newer browsers don't need a print-friendly version of this article.
