Deb Smith, HES math tutor, recently taught a small group of fourth grade students how to quilt. The students met on Mondays after school for five weeks. They chose their theme, Whimsical Cats, and worked each session to make their own quilt block. They discovered that you need many skills in order to quilt, including math skills such as measuring, estimating and spatial sense. The project was lots of fun and the quilt is quite...whimsical!
