Classroom Weekly Update
It's officially October and scare is in the air!
In English I, the freshmen are working toward standards mastery while reading the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Feedback on the book is great! Students love to read Hinton for her easy-to-identify-with characters and her ability to capture the truth of the teenage social scene. This week we are examining the element of character and will be performing skits that I intend to post online for your viewing pleasure.
The juniors in English III are finishing up their unit on narrative writing. They have read and analyzed many stories and learned much about the fundaments of narrative. Now it is time for them to show what they know. They are beginning to create stories of their own complete with complex and colorful characters, vivid settings, compelling conflicts, and engaging plots. From all that I've heard and seen, these stories are going to be great! We will be presenting in class October 13th and 15th. We will post the finished narratives of willing students to the web and put the talent on display.
What's Going On in the Classroom
This is the maiden blog of my teacher web page, and I just wanted to communicate my excitement about the coming school year. It is going to be an exceptional one, I can already tell. I plan for this to be a forum where I can let parents and those interested know what's going on in our classroom from week to week. We will be doing many exciting things in class, and learning a lot along the way, and I want you to know all about it.
One of my primary goals for the school year is to get more students and parents involved in the education process in my classroom by giving them an opportunity and an easy venue to voice their opinions, concerns and suggestions, as well as a place just to say "hey!" Your feedback is essential, so go ahead and click that little button below and give it.
Much more will be coming on my teacher web page, including resource lists and, hopefully, links to online versions of the textbooks. Something to look forward to. In the mean time...
WELCOME BACK!!!
