All About Me

by Jane Crider

August 31, 2010

I am the District Social Worker for the Hiawatha Schools.  I am starting my third year as the Social Worker for USD #415 and I have loved getting to know and work with all of the students and the staff.  The greatest part about my job is getting the opportunity to meet and work with so many people in all of the schools and community agencies, with so many different age levels.  I also love meeting the students' families and working with them to help in any way possible.  Student success is so important to myself, our staff and our administrators and I am dedicated to helping students experience and maintain success in our schools!

I graduated from Horton High School in 2001.  Initially, I began my journey through college at Benedictine in Atchison, KS., majoring in Psychology.  After my first year of college, I transferred to Washburn University in Topeka, KS and earned my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) in May of 2005.  Very soon after, I began working toward my Master's Degree in Social Work and completed the program in May of 2006 at Washburn University.  I received my license (LMSW) in August of 2006.

Before joining the team at Hiawatha Schools in September of 2008, I worked in Topeka  for five years at the Shawnee County Family Resource Center under a program designed to help students who had been expelled or long-term suspended from all of the Shawnee County School Districts.

I have an eight year old son, Bryson, who is in third grade at Horton Elementary School and a one year old mini-dachshund named Shorty.  When I am not analyzing and trying to solve the world's problems, I am spending time with them.   Music is a huge part of my life, all different types and varieties.  I enjoy looking for new and interesting artists that have not been "over played" on public radio.  I also love to spend time with all of my family and friends, ride my bike, watch movies, sit on my porch, and although I have been slacking, I like learning how to play my guitar.  Here is some randomness:  My favorite place to be is the beach, but I am not picky.. any body of water will work for me.  My favorite color is green and my favorite day of the week is Friday.
