Damian Johnson, Instrumental Music

Damian Johnson is in his 9th year of teaching and his 7th year as Director of Bands at Hiawatha High and Hiawatha Middle School.  Mr. Johnson received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Washburn University in 1999 and his Master’s in Education from Baker University in 2006.

 

Mr. Johnson is a freelance Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba player.  He currently plays in the Delaware Valley Brass Quintet, Marshall County Community Band, Highland Community Band, the Kansas Brass All-Stars, and the Nutcracker Symphony Orchestra in Topeka, KS.  Mr. Johnson is also the Director of the Hiawatha Community Summer Jazz Ensemble and has served as a clinician for many school bands in preparation for State Contest. 

 

Mr. Johnson is a member of MENC, KMEA, KBA, and NEA.  This year was the fifth year Mr. Johnson’s Bio was selected to Who’s Who Among American Teachers.  In 2005, Mr. Johnson received the Teacher of the Year Award for the Hiawatha USD 415 School District and in October of 2008, Mr. Johnson was selected as the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year.  Damian also coaches Middle School Basketball. He is married to Brandi, and has a daughter, LeAnne.
