HHS Math Students Celebrate Pi Day!

by Karl Kliewer

April 22, 2008

Pi!  Yummy, Yummy!  No, not pie but mathematical Pi!  3.1415926....the irrational number used to calculate area and circumference of a circle - was celebrated by Mr Karl Kliewer's math students on March 14th.  (Pi Day - 3/14 = 3.14!!!)

Brady Hoskins and Nikki Entrikin assemble their Pi chain representing the digits in the number Pi.

Students in these upper level math classes learned about calculating Pi, finding strings of digits embedded in the number Pi, made Pi chains representing the digits in Pi, answered Pi trivia questions and of course - ate Pie!  Pi day celebrations take place among the mathematics community all around the world on March 14th each year.  Students in Mr Kliewer's classes have celebrated Pi Day annually with games, activities and internet research about the number Pi.  Mark it down on your calendar for next year - join the celebration of Pi Day next March 14th!!

Nancy Harvalis helps hang her groups Pi chain as decoration for the Pi Day celebration in Mr. Kliewer's math classes.
