Rebecca Schwanke began teaching Title I Reading in Hiawatha in 1985. Before that she taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades in Colby, KS, Springfield, MO, and Carbondale, KS. Becky grew up in Scott City, in far western Kansas, attended Phillips University in Enid, OK, and graduated from Ft. Hays State with a BS in Elementary Education. She received her Reading Specialist endorsement from Emporia State University, and English as a Second Language endorsement from Kansas State.
Mrs. Schwanke is married to John, a carpenter, and they have one son, Cole, daughter-in-law, Leigh Ann, and two granddaughters, Peri and Olivia. Becky loves to read, sing, travel with her husband, play with her little Yorkie, Daisy, and spend time with her family and friends. She loves children and books, so teaching children to read has been a perfect career.
