On Thursday April 3, HHS held its annual spring blood drive. This was the second of the two blood drives held at HHS during the 07-08 school year. Students ages sixteen and older, as well as teachers, designated a time to donate during the day. Some students, if they were eligible, were able to give blood on the Alyx Machine, which is a special machine that separates all the parts of the blood.
Thursday morning, a breakfast was held for all students giving blood. Biscuits and gravy was the featured meal.
Sophomore Courtney Gill gave blood for the first time during the recent drive.
“I didn’t mind giving blood,” said Gill. “I felt sick afterwards, but it was for a good cause, so it was worth it.”
Student Council, the blood drive sponsor, had a table with cookies and drinks for those preparing to give blood or for those who had recently given.
Student Council president Ashley Mueller was pleased with the number of those who donated.
“We had a great turn out for the blood drive this year,” said Mueller. “Hopefully students are willing to give for many years to come.”
Throughout the day, Grant Stoner, Student Council Vice President, could be found dressed as blood drop as he went from room to room, taking people out of class based on the particular student’s blood donating time.
Students could also be found in the halls wearing various colors of arm bands to hide the needle scar.
Junior Eric Paternoster plans to give blood again.
“I enjoyed giving blood,” said Paternoster. “I think you save three lives when you give blood, so I am proud to be a hero at HHS.”
