Head Coach Scot Koranda is thrilled to announce that the 2008 Track Season is finally here. Students have eagerly shown up in groups to join this year’s track team. As soon as you walk into the gym you can see all of the freshmen impatiently waiting for track practice to start. When asked about how many athletes we have this year, Coach Koranda commented, “Maybe between forty and fifty, I’m not quite for sure yet because several are still finishing the basketball season.”

Proper stretching is important!

“We have a young team; our progress will improve greatly as we have shown through out the years.” Do you have any high hopes for any particular event? “ Our Distance Runners will be successful as we have shown from Cross Country and last year’s track season,” then went on to say “ We have a couple of sprinters that look promising, we have Cameron Leupold at Long Jump and Kenny Williams with throwing events.” Our track team may be young but their experienced and know how to get it done. The freshmen have done very well in middle school. High school is a whole other level, but we are confident that they will persevere and heard towards a united goal.

Returning to this year track team is Russell Frakes who went undefeated all year in the two mile; he was the Regional Champion and took seventh place at State in Wichita, Ks last year. Also returning is Jordan Marable and Reese Vonderschmidt on the 4X8 Relay team who placed sixth in their respective class. The other two 4X8 runners were AJ Tanking and Brian Heiniger who graduated last year.

Long distance Coach Carter

There are three main groups. You have the Sprinters, which are coached by Scot Koranda. That consists of events like the 100 meter sprint, 200 meter sprint, 400 meter sprint, the 100 meter relay sprint, 200 meter relay sprint and the 400 meter relay sprint. Also, the 100 meter hurdles. Middle Distance events are coached by Mark Carter. These consist of the 800 meter, 800 meter relay, 1,600 meter (1 mile), and the 3,200 meter (2 mile). Then last, but certainly not least, the throwing events. These are coached by Ron Nichols. The events here are: javelin, shot put, and discus. Other events, which are coached by Scot Koranda, are high jump, long jump, triple jump, and pole vaulting.

If you are interested in joining a sport to have fun, make friends, get in shape, and maybe a few medals, track is the sport for you!
