Did you know that Hiawatha Middle School had a Native American Round Dance at the end of November 2007? With all the ice and snow and closing school, a report was not made until now.
Native American Students came out and demonstrated the dance and then they taught all the other students how to do the side step and join the circle. Some of the Native girls brought shawls and did an exhibition of "Fancy Shawl" dancing. They were honored to share with all of us.
Everyone was enjoying themselves. It was a great way to remind staff and students that we Native Americans are still here. This was a part of several events to celebrate Native American Month in November.
