Graphic Applications
New Course Offered at HHS

A new class has entered Hiawatha High School, which is Graphic Applications taught by Melissa Trujillo. It is a semester class that will help you to edit photos, and make cool designs. In Graphic Applications you would work out of a book that had exercises for you to do so you could learn some of the new tools and get to know the program. After you would do the Exercise assignments, then there would be an On Your Own assignment that you would have to do using the tools you just learned. Then when done with the lesson you would have a test to prove that you know how to use the tools correctly.
You would do all these lessons, On Your Owns, and Tests on Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop has a lot of tools that you need to know about before you start using it. Before you even got started on the lessons, you had to read pages about how to use them then on the next couple pages then there would be steps to help you get one of the tools.
This is Trujillo’s first year teaching full time at the high school. She seems to be pretty good at it. This is not the only new class that she teaches this year, Webpage Design is another one offered this current semester. She is always willing to help you on something that you are having trouble on but she will not help you on tests. According to Trujillo this has been a great year so far and she would like to keep it going. During class she will let you listen to music as long as it doesn’t distract you from getting your work done. She also lets you work at your own speed instead of everybody else’s because it might rush you and you won’t learn any thing which isn’t what she wants. She walks around the room to see what you are working on and to see if you’re doing your work. Sometimes if you were far ahead of people, she would let you have a free day where you would just play games while the ones who were slow could get caught up.
Graphic Applications is a great class if you want to work with photos and make cool designs on them. First semester I took this class, with a lot of other people who wanted to learn how to work with photos. This class gave me lots of experience with pictures and how to work with them on Photoshop. Having this experience with pictures I can now put some fun things on photos and make them look really cool for a project or something. Taking Graphic Applications helped me in so many ways. According to Russel, “Graphic Applications is a really hard class if you don’t follow the directions right.” I bet if I asked some other students that took Graphic Applications they would probably say that it helped them too!
