First Grade Guided Reading

Hello, everyone!
I am Becky Howard, the guided reading teacher for first graders here at HES. I have been in this particular job capacity since the 2001-2002 school year. Before doing guided reading, I worked as a paraprofessional approximately 12 years, splitting my time between first and fourth grade classrooms. Previous to my years as a para, I taught fourth grade in this building for 3 years. As you can tell, I have some history here at the elementary school! I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Kansas State University and have continued to take graduate courses through the years to study research on best educational practices. Prior to starting as a guided reading teacher, I participated in a balanced literacy course from Pittsburg State University. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the incredible growth in knowledge that occurs in a 9 month span of a 6 or 7 year old's life--WOW!
My husband and I have three children that we are extremely proud of and one very special little granddaughter. For fun and relaxation, I enjoy reading, baking, working in my garden, spending time with family and friends, traveling and attending sporting events with my husband and pretty much anything having to do with music.
