Helen has been teaching in Gifted Education for the Brown County Special Education Cooperative since the fall of 1984. She has a BA in History/Political Science from Washburn University and a MS in Gifted Education (Educational Psychology) from Fort Hays State University. Helen moved to Hiawatha with her husband Ed in 1974; and their 3 children attended all 12 grades in the Hiawatha district. Helen teaches concurrent credit classes at HHS through Highland Community College, which includes General Psychology, Ancient History, History of Western Civilization, United States History, and U.S. Government. Helen has enlarged her curriculum to include the study of East Asia and is incorporating information gleaned from her 3 week stay in China and Korea this past summer. In addition she is also the sponsor of the Student Council at Hiawatha High. During her free time Helen enjoys horses, antiques, and gardening.
