Job Description

PURPOSE: Provides classroom and program support for classroom teachers and students assisting with instruction, material preparation, communication, students' personal needs, logistics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

  1. Assists in regular routines including but not limited to student schedules, attendance, classroom work, and administrative records in elementary classrooms.

  2. Attends classes with students to keep them on task; fills out assignment sheets and keeps track of student assignment due dates and checks on past due assignments.

  3. Follows expectations of teachers and their lesson plans to assist in reinforcement and learning objectives.

  4. Monitors and tutors students one on one or in small groups as required by the teacher.

  5. Prepares bulletin boards; assists in planning by rearranging the room, cleaning it and maintaining general orderliness.

  6. Copies and assembles materials for students in a time sensitive manner.

  7. Assists with field trips, in playground activity and loading and unloading buses.

  8. Assists teacher/students with structured environment including but not limited to lessons, personal hygiene, supervision, behavior controlling techniques.

  9. Assists with scoring tests with computer; keeps records, makes reports as required; assists with procuring materials.

  10. Attends training and/or in-service provided by the district.

  11. Manages all job duties to work with students in various circumstances inside and outside with mobility to move from place to place; agility and dexterity to focus on students and student activities more than 75% of the time; dexterity to manually move, lift, pull or push objects of not more than 25 pounds; agility and quick response to emergency situations; uses CPR and/or first aid; keeps records and makes reports.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

  1. Assists with program support: copying, running errands, collating packets.

  2. Assists with reports and files as needed.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  1. Must support district mission, goals and objectives.

  2. Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to use classroom equipment including but not limited to computers.

  3. Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement intervention techniques in behavior modification to maintain classroom conducive to learning for all students.

  4. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the District.

  5. Professional evaluation performed annually by Building Principal and Supervising Teacher.

CONTRACT LENGTH: Equal to student contact days as determined by the BOE approved district calendar.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Shall have a High School diploma, GED or College Degree and/or passing scores on Para Educator training.
