Parents and Guardians of Hiawatha High School Students,

On October 9th, 2019, Hiawatha High School students will be participating in the SOS Signs of Suicide Program, as a part of our school-wide suicide prevention efforts. The Signs of Suicide (SOS) program educates students about the signs and symptoms of depression & suicide and  how to seek help for themselves or a friend. The SOS Program uses a simple and easy-to -remember acronym, ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) to teacher students action steps to take if they encounter a situation that requires help from a trusted adult.

Parents can access this free educational site for information on warning signs and risk factors for youth depression and suicide, access useful resources, and to learn more about the key message all students will learn: ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell). You can preview the video your student will watch and take an anonymous online mental health screening on behalf of your child.
