FFA members receive awards at district events

Several members of the Hiawatha FFA Chapter competed at the Northeast District Spring Career Development Event Day at Highland Community College on April 8. Career Development Events are designed to allow students to test their skills and information obtained in agricultural education courses in a competitive setting. Hiawatha FFA members competed in four events. In Agricultural Communications, Hiawatha received first place as a team. Individuals in the CDE were Katie Liechti, first place; Jessica Geiger, fourth place; and Emily Meyer, tenth place. Ryker Smith placed ninth overall in Ag Sales, while the team placed fifth. The Floriculture A-team and B-team both received second place. In the Floriculture A-team division, Kyle Tollefson received sixth place, Sadie Meyer placed seventh and Bryn Swearingen was ninth. Floriculture B-team individual placers were Dannell Kopp, second place; Emma Williams, fifth; and Evan Brockhoff, eighth. Kyle Tollefson took top honors in the Food Science CDE placing first overall in the A-team division while Tess Wolney was second in the B-team division. The Food Science A-team received fifth place and the B-team placed second.
