Hi, I teach Visual Arts at Hiawatha High School. It is a joy to work with student artists, and I love to see them grow in their talent.
I grew up in St. James, a small rural town in southern Minnesota. I got my undergraduate degree in K-12 Art Education at Southwest Minnesota State University and graduated in 2004. I continued my education at Lesley University and graduated in 2008 with a Master’s in Education in Curriculum & Instruction emphasizing in Integrated Teaching through the Arts.
Prior to teaching in Hiawatha I taught 7th & 8th graders at Ellis Middle School in Austin, MN for seven years. When in Austin I met my husband, Brett, a 1998 graduate of HHS. We married in 2007 and have two children, Grace, and Dayne.
As an artist who teaches, I spend a lot of my time working with the students. However, I constantly strive to create my own pieces as well. I enjoy mixed media, art journals, and hand built pottery. I am currently experimenting with art quilting and fibers. I am very passionate about a lot of things and my subjects and themes change with the media.
