Valerie Tollefson graduated from Missouri Western State University with a degree in elementary education (K-6) with an emphasis in mild/moderate cross categorical disabilities (K-12). She is currently pursuing a master's degree in the assessment of autism spectrum disorders. Valerie provides special education services for 6th and 8th grade students at Hiawatha Middle School.
Valerie has resided in Brown County for the majority of her life. She graduated from Horton High School and married her lifelong friend, Mark Tollefson. Mark is employed by Tollefson Farms, Inc, and is a Hiawatha High alumni. Their children, Seth, Leah, and Annie, also attended and graduated from USD 415. She enjoys reading, solving puzzles, singing, playing the piano, and spending time with her family and mostly her grandchildren.
Working with the outstanding staff and students at HMS is a blessing for Valerie. She looks forward to collaborating daily with teachers about how to best educate not only students who are identified with special needs, but all students.
