HHS welcomes a new addition to Freakers Ball

October is here and students at Hiawatha High are planning a newer and spookier Freakers Ball than ever before. The dance is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday, October 30.

Every year at Freakers there is a costume contest. There will be judges for Best Single, Best Pair, Best Group, Best Celebrity, Best Super Hero, Best Villain, Best Sports-themed, Best Monster, Best Homemade, Best Pun, Scariest, and the Funniest costumes.

“I won overall best my freshman and senior years… ” said HHS alum Jessica Geiger. “Freshman year we dressed as Roy Lichtenstein cartoon characters, and senior year I went as crocodiles with Michael Abeita and Jessie Brintnall.”

Geiger’s favorite part of Freakers was the combination of all the decorations, all the different costumes and seeing what the Kliewer’s dressed up as.

Everyone will enter the dance through a Haunted Hallway that will be filled with teachers and staff. The hallway is a new addition to the ball this year, which is put on by the Student Council. Beware, your favorite teacher(s) may jump out at you, scaring you half to death, with maybe a dribble of urine dripping from your drawers.

Costume judging will take place shortly after the dance starts. Students can enter judging more than once. The fee to enter the dance is five dollars.
