Biology Club Members Recycle

The Hiawatha High School Biology Club will continue to recycle this year in the west end of the high school's parking lot every third Saturday of each month from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. The club appreciates the support it receives from the community for its efforts to keep recyclable items out of the landfill. In August, both trailers were filled beyond capacity! The club members especially appreciate it when patrons have their items properly sorted when they are brought to the trailers.
The club accepts the following items: glass - please separate by color; #1 and #2 plastics only - please separate by number (milk jugs need to be separated from the other #2 containers); newspaper, office paper, magazines, cardboard, tin cans - please peel off the label, remove both ends (if possible) and smash; and finally aluminum cans (we're sorry but we cannot accept aluminum foil or pie plates).
The Biology Club generates revenue only through the sell of the aluminum cans. This money is used to help fund the cost of students' trips to the biological research center on San Salvador Island, Bahamas, each spring. The rest of the material goes to the Nemaha County Recycling Center near Oneida.
We hope to see you each third Saturday, and please remember the ecological slogan "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" because if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
