Fourth Grade Goes Green!
Sa'Mores Baked in Solar Ovens
by Elaine Schilling
August 30, 2010
Fourth grade students spent the first week of school making solar ovens, and then baking sa'mores for a final product! Mrs. Coulter taught about the scientific method and the students made their hypothesis. Mr. Runer taught a social studies lesson on the history of solar ovens and then asked the students to imagine what the future of solar cooking might include. Ms. Schilling designed writing assignments for each day that helped the students connect the lesson and project. Finally on Friday sa'mores were made and enjoyed by everyone- including some ants!
