For Senior English students in Patti Davis class, it’s poetry time! Students are learning about different poets and the different ways to write poems. They are also learning how to understand a poem, the literal meaning and the figurative meaning.
There are many different ways to write a poem. There is free verse, limericks, three word forms and many more! Each student has to write at least one poem for each different kind of poem. The students then publish a book with all of their poems in it.
There was a poem feast on Tuesday, January 26, so students could finish their poems and study for the unit test. The test was Thursday, January 28. Students had to memorize a poem, and know the authors that they have learned about and what poems that author wrote. Most of the students enjoyed learning poetry.
Jordan Marable said, “I really enjoyed the poetry unit because we’ve never got to write as much poetry in any other class.”
