Animal Science

On January 27th students in Animal Science class at HHS learned about popcorn. They conducted an experiment where they had to make the most popcorn pop out of 10 kernels. Jay Brintnall’s group had all ten kernels pop but they used vegetable oil which made the microwave way too hot, causing it to overheat. Mrs. Kern, instructor, teased Brintnall’s for the microwave overheating because he was told by her to test the oil to see how it would work.
“This class is very exciting and fun because of how much we get to do”, says Caleb Ruhnke.
The students who have enrolled in this class are learning about the food provided by animals and crops, hence the popcorn. But since the microwave over heated students had to wait until later to complete the experiment. Everyone was a little upset but they played a trivia game on the computer all about popcorn. Then they put the popcorn experiments on the back counter and put their names on it for the next class period.
“We do a lot in this class and I think everyone should join it”, says Kooper Wintersheidt.”
During first semester when the students were doing an experiment about the contents of animal feed, Kooper Wintersheidt accidentally broke some glass and then he turned around and broke another one within 10 minutes of each other. The whole class had to wear safety glasses after this when they were heating the glass in case they dropped it like Wintersheidt did. Students in Animal Science class do a lot of activities and it can be very suspenseful!
