New Art

There are some pretty cool art courses at Hiawatha High. There are many dedicated artists and students who want to pursue a career in art. Most have pretty good ideas and when they get finished with their work, they’re mostly satisfied with it.
When asked about his painting of a stinky fish, Verdell Haws said, “I really enjoy our subject matter. I worked with watercolors which I have not ever really worked with before, but I like the way it’s working out.”
Mr. Little, the fairly new art teacher, is influencing many students with new ideas and techniques. There are two new classes: Art History and Contemporary Art. In Art History students learn about what happened to create new art movements and study artists and their techniques. They memorize different slides with different paintings. Dates and artists are also memorized. In contemporary art, new ideas are explored. There has been talk of installation pieces, and new ways to create a self portrait.
Antuan Grier said, “I feel like Mr. Little has really helped me to become a better artist and to become more creative.”
New advances and new ideas are being thought up every day. It’s really quite exciting to see what’s going to happen next. Only the future will reveal what more there is to come out of the Hiawatha High School art department.
