Independent Study At HHS

by Ashley Trundle

February 01, 2010

When taking a class that students are required to take or when looking into a career that they want to pursue in the future, things may seem a little tough.  By taking Independent Study students can go through all the informational stages of looking for a job or a career path to follow. Students at HHS can possibly take any class during the Independent Study if they really want to.

Hali Siebenmorgen: "I love this class. It helps me understand what it would be like to be a nurse."

During Independent Study classes at HHS many students get to choose what class they want to study during their time. Hali Siebenmorgen went into Independent Study for Career Preparation on CNA work and is getting started with the classes and training and preparation with the CNA testing. Kristen Allen went into Independent Study for Study Hall, Jackie Rash and Anna Shoop are taking Independent Study for Accounting, and Martin Perez is Mrs. Lindstrom’s Teachers Aide. This class is a great help for those who would really like to succeed in the future with a really specific job. Ashley Trundle went in Independent Study for LPN learning and College Preparation and just finding out what the cost and all the good and relevant information on LPN work in Kansas.

The process of getting approved for an Independent Study class, starts with the principal, the counselor, and the teacher of your current 4A class. Students must fill out a paper telling what they want to do and why they want to do it. They must have one of their parents sign it, the principal sign it, and the teacher they would want to spend Independent Study with sign it.

Kristen Allen: "I love this class!! It's fun and super easy!!"

Independent Study isn’t meant for everyone just for the people who like to study with nobody to bother them, and for the students looking to pursue a career in a specific area. In Independent Study for Career Preparation they would look up information about the cost of schooling, expected salary, high demand or low demand, what has to be done to move on from there, the classes required, and where they would want to go to college to pursue this career. The students in this class work hard to accomplish many tasks that are created for them by Mrs. Lindstrom.
