Greek Day Mini Olympics

by Elaine Schilling

May 08, 2009

Hello Readers! Our guided reading group has been studying Greek mythology for the past two months.  We have used many resources to learn about Greek mythology.  Those resources include:  plays, skits, books, videos, etc...

We learned many Greek myths.  We learned about Greek gods and goddesses such as:  Hades and Athena.  We learned how Theusus killed the Minotaur and how he escaped.  We also learned about King Midas of Crete. We learned about Deadulus and his son who got out of the labyrinth.

We studied the Olympics and how they started in Athens, Greece.  For our final project we created mini Olympic games for the whole fourth grade.  Some of the games included:  long jumping, a scavenger hunt, obstacle courses and even a triathlon!  It was hard work, but we got through it.

Our Greek group includes:  Jessie, Sydney, Jessica, Katie, Sadie, Jada, Kyle, and Rebecca.
