As cool air and red maple leaves sweep through Hiawatha and Halloween creeps closer, two of your local Red Hawks will be competing for the Halloween Queen scholarship and, of course, the crown.

HHS seniors Bella Eppens of Reserve and Robin Madere of Hiawatha have both been chosen by the school board committee to represent Hiawatha High School and their local communities in the upcoming Halloween Queen competition. This competition contains various categories of judging, including a display talent, an intensive questionnaire and an essay submission. Each candidate will have the opportunity to showcase what makes them unique on Sunday, October 28.

Robin Madere, Hiawatha’s representative, spends her time on the softball field and in the stands with the Red Hawk band. She expresses excitement about being nominated, saying that it came as a huge surprise when she heard the news.

“I never expected this,” Madere goes on to say. “I’m hoping that I can use my nomination to win, or even if I don’t, to show the preschoolers that I work with that it doesn’t matter what you look like or if you aren’t popular, you can still achieve what you want to achieve.”

Isabella Eppens of Reserve also attends Hiawatha High School and is serving as Reserve’s Halloween Queen representative. Inside the high school, you can find Isabella working with the Hawk Eye publications staff to give students and her local community the latest news. She sees this as a great opportunity and is still in shock over her queen nomination.

“It was a great feeling and I’m very grateful to have been chosen by the school board.”

Your local Red Hawks will compete with multiple other nominees, including those representing Sabetha, Whitecloud, and many other nearby communities. Be sure to support your local candidates in their queenly pursuits.
